The Studio

WHO
WE ARE

Infinite State Games are Charlie Scott-Skinner and Mike Daw — a two-person independent studio based in London and Glastonbury, UK. Fungineering since 2008. Gourmet games for the discerning.

We're veterans of handheld and console gaming who specialise in making euphoric, deep, colourful and intensely fun arcade games. Our design philosophy is rooted in the golden age of the arcade — from a time when a tight game loop was enough to keep you coming back, when beating your own score and the promise of unlocking one more thing was all the motivation you needed.

We've shipped on PS Vita, iOS, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation VR, Xbox and PC. We've been picked up by Curve Digital. We've been TIGA Award finalists. We've had a cult hit. And in December 2024 — a full ten years after the original Don't Die Mr Robot launched on PS Vita — we released our most ambitious game yet. ISG pride themselves on having the best bass in videogames, and they are not wrong.

Charlie once bragged that as a schoolboy he could get to level 6 on R-Type on a single 20p credit. Mike is the "what sound does the plane make when it hits a wall" guy. Between them, they make games that feel like they were designed by people who have memorised every cabinet in every arcade that ever existed.

From the archive — TheSixthAxis interview, 2018
On the origins of Rogue Aces:
"From my point of view, the single largest influence was a little known Atari ST game called Sky Strike+. I spent many hours on that game and have dreamed of making something similar ever since."
— Charlie Scott-Skinner
On the plane-hijack mechanic:
"Right from the start, when Rogue Aces was just a Rizla with some ideas on, we wanted to jump out of the plane and steal another one."
— Mike Daw
On flight physics:
"We turned to the good folks at MIT, who just happen to have posted some handy equations for flight."
— Charlie
Mike, on flight physics:
"What he said. I'm more the 'what sound does the plane make when it hits a wall' guy."
— Mike Daw

◆ Programmer · Co-Designer · Head Honcho
Charlie
Scott-Skinner
The brains of the operation. Previously at Slightly Mad Studios (Project CARS), Playjam and more. Charlie does all the programming and co-designs every ISG game — he's the architect behind the flight physics, enemy AI and systems that make the games feel the way they do. Will happily tell you his R-Type high score.

Mike
Daw
The designer, composer and creative director. Level design, music, audio design, production — and the reason ISG games sound absolutely enormous. A self-described twitch gamer who relies on reflexes over strategy. Shmups are his thing. Every ISG game starts life as a Rizla with some ideas on it.

Review — TheSixthAxis
This is the arcade game the 12-year-old version of you was always meant to play. Fast, frantic, outrageously challenging. Infinite State Games have created something very special here.

A solid, satisfying solo-focused shooter that's only 123MB in size — it is a Nintendo Switch necessity that will barely make a dent in your storage.

Review — TheSixthAxis
3D Don't Die Mr Robot brings the classic arcade-style high score chase to a new dimension. Simple to understand and accessible to all ages, but challenges will be tough for even the most seasoned arcade fans.

3D Don't Die Mr Robot
Review — HardcoreGamer
3D Don't Die, Mr Robot! is a ridiculously-playable arcade game that feels great whether just making things explode or chasing after a new score for the leaderboard — perfect for a moment's break or a proper high-score run.

Review — Nintendo Life
Rogue Aces is a stellar, fresh experience that has landed on the Switch eShop seemingly out of nowhere. Clear off the Switch's runway and bring Rogue Aces in for a landing — this game deserves a place in your library.

Arcade perfection is found in this fast-paced risk vs reward dodge-em-up, then bomb-em-up. A cult classic in waiting — don't sleep on this indie game sensation.

Community Review — Steam
At its core, it's a cross between Minter visuals, Every Extend bomb chaining and a whole lot of careful arcade game design. Can be tough without being stressful. The music is the perfect accompaniment. Ten hours in and looking forward to diving in for more. Love this. It's cracking.
