VO is in Rogue Aces!

We’ve just finished putting the voice over in the game, and what a difference it’s made. Putting audio in any game really makes it come alive, and it’s one of our favourite parts of the game making process.

However when the voice over goes in, when it’s performed by someone as indescribably awesome as Marc Silk, that’s when your game’s personality really jumps out of the screen and in your head.

Here’s a video of us starting a new game and playing some missions. Marc does the voice of both the British Commander and the rather unhinged American Pilot.

Sounding pretty cool, huh?

Actually recording the VO with Marc was a blast.  Mike called up to Marc’s studio via Skype, and via the medium of clever electronics was able to see and talk to him while the recording was being done.

There was lots of Scooby-Doo and Shaggy impressions in between takes, and much dicking about which definitely helped get the energy right.  There was also a lot of adlibbing which made the cut into the game.

Visit Marc’s website here and if you’re a in the market for top class VO, this is your guy right here.  He’s also bloody lovely.  www.marcsilk.com

Rogue Aces: Meet The Enemy

Good_Dude_Boxless.pngWhat ho, my old fruities!

Now look here, I’ve got some intel on the enemy forces you’ll be taking on in Rogue Aces.

So pay attention, pilot!

AERIAL FOES

4.png B101 Fury Wasp – Slow turns, small engines weak guns.

1.png B102 Angry Squirrel – better fire power, slow speed.

2.pngB103 Sparrowhawk – highly agile fighter

3.png B104 SkyTiger – Big guns, fast and tough.

5.png B105 Nashwan – Max acceleration, turn speed, armour & guns.

Bombers_Revised.png

B112 The Spangleford Skyburglar

Heavily armoured, chain gun toting flying fortress capable of delivering explosive payloads or paratroopers.

There have been larger enemy assets spotted in the skies, but we’re going to need you to investigate those for yourself, pilot.  We do however have this classified silhouette…

GROUND-BASED FOES

Tank_Aim.png T021 Death Tortoise Tank – slow but capable of killing you in one shot.

Enemy_AA_Truck_Drive.png P-A2 A-A Artillery Vehicle – powerful anti air attacking powers.

AA_Turret_Revised.pngAnti Aircraft Turret – hell bent on destroying you.

Flak_Boat_Cruise_Frames.pngSS. Rusty Destroyer – The tank of the sea!

trainz.png

Armoured Train – the enemy has taken to adulterating beautiful choo-choo trains and sticking a load of horrid guns on them.  These are modular and change their configuration according to the threat level.

There are reports of much larger nautical military threats out there, but nothing concrete.  All we have this this classified silhouette…

Now, there’s still a few months until we start our all out assault on the enemy, and it’s quite possible that we’ve missed some threats off of this intel report that you’ll have to encounter in the field.

We do however have this footage from a previous night time test flight you might enjoy

In the mean time, we suggest you follow infinite state games on Twitter to keep abreast of the latest intelligence coming in.

Wing Kings Brand New Screenshot Blitz!

Wing Kings (working title) is coming along VERY nicely indeed.  We have in our hands solid proof that an arcade aerial combat roguelike is insanely fun.  But don’t worry, it’ll be in your hands in Q1 2017!  Here are some new screenshots of a prop-plane blowing things up 😉

Some little fellas here running away from your bombs

1

There’s your Commander, greeting you to the game.

2

Whoops, we had to eject here due to flying plane into cliff edge.

3

This is one of the enemy’s biscuit factories.  Better destroy that.

4

Bit of night time parachuting.

5

This is a well guarded factory, getting rather peppered with bullets!

6

Taking flak from all angles against this battle ship.

8

Some serious tank action!

9

A giant enemy airship took me out!

10

Well, at least I took a few tanks and some dude with me.

11

A little unsporting perhaps, this sort of carry on.

So there we go!  Next up, we’ll be putting in the other ecosystems and environments.  Just as soon as we’ve put in the BARON BOSS FIGHTS! Oooooh!

And don’t forget, if you want to help us choose the final name for Wing Kings, we’ve put it to a vote!  Check out our shortlist and let us know which name suits the game best here!

Norwich Games Fest Report

A month or so ago now, Charlie and Mike from the most prestigious ISG went up to Norwich to show Wing Kings at the Games Festival.

Smooth drive up, stopping only to get a pair of Olympic Breakfasts from the Little Chef.

2016-03-31 18.21.22

An early start, dragging the high score board through Norwich town centre at 8 in the morning.

We set up with two PSVitas, one of which was plugged into a monitor via HDMI.

We didn’t bov with a poster behind us because fuck it.

Throughout the day we had lots of visitors playing the build. People loved hijacking enemy planes and really got in to working up the skill to land. We also got the idea to remove certain damage to keep the momentum of the game going from watching lots of players die and make weird ‘gmmmmmpphhh‘ noises.

Then this happened which was awesome.

The trip was a great opportunity to witness how people play the game and spotting any obstacles to fun that people may run into.

An event like this, safe well organised and eclectic, is always a pleasure to attend. As a developer, it’s absolutely invaluable seeing what a seven year old boy, a 30 year old girl and a dude in his 70’s feels about your game. Sometimes it’s hard to see the wood from the trees when you’re balls deep in making a game, and experiencing it from a new angle is mega beneficial.

We also learned that there is an upper limit to the amount of full English breakfasts one should really eat over a weekend.

Nice run on DDMR – Arcade Mode

Don’t Die, Mr. Robot! is a game where you need to milk the scoring mechanic to get the high scores.

Here’s us doing a run in Arcade Mode where we use all the techniques to get a big fat score!

Watch out for:

  • Letting the fruit build up to get a bigger chain and thus a higher points multiplier
  • Using the spawning indicators to predict where the next wave of enemies will come from
  • Getting Danger Bonuses where possible

Don’t Die, Mr. Robot! PS4 Press Release

Don’t Die, Mr. Robot – Bullet hell avoid ’em up for PS4 and PSVita (Cross-Buy)

Deep in the electro-abyss lives a little robot who loves to eat exploding fruit. He also quite likes staying alive. That’s where you come in…

The cult arcade favourite “Don’t Die, Mr. Robot!” is coming to PlayStation 4 on 8th March in NA and EU.

We’ve pumped up the visuals to silky smooth 60fps and full HD. We’ve tweaked the banging electro soundtrack so it sounds super rad on a big screen.

We’ve massaged the controls to perfection, and we’ll be bathing your lap with neon glowy goodness emanating from the controller.

Plus, all the hot game modes that made the PSVita version a player’s favourite:

  • The brutally addictive Arcade Mode brings arcade glory into your living room with a compulsive death drop into the fruity electro-abyss.

  • The intense Score Attack mode that gives you two and a half minutes to push the scoring mechanism to its limits, or to die loads and do real badly. It’s up to you!

  • The misleadingly named Chill Out mode which is far from relaxing at all.

  • Remix mode which gives you 50 missions of mixed up rules and gameplay variations.

Each game mode shares leaderboards with the PSVita version so if you don’t manage to get top score at home, you can keep your streak by playing on the go!

There’s loads of other surprises in store too, so stick your headphones on, get your controller ready and dive head first into some good old fashioned arcadey bliss.
